Goddess of Liberty

The Goddess of Liberty is a sculpture by Elijah E. Myers that originally stood atop the Texas State Capitol dome in Austin, erected in February 1888. Today, a replica stands in its place on the dome, while the original statue was restored and relocated to the Bullock Texas State History Museum in 1986. Visitors can view the replica from the Capitol grounds or learn about the sculpture's history at the Bullock Museum. The original Goddess of Liberty is on display there, offering a close look at the restored statue. The sculpture is a prominent symbol of Texas and a notable example of 19th-century public art.
