Scholz Garten

Scholz Garten is a historic beer garden and restaurant in downtown Austin, established in 1866 by German immigrant August Scholz. It quickly became a hub for German immigrants and their culture, and has been owned by the Austin Saengerrunde since 1914. The venue remains a popular gathering spot for political discussions and University of Texas sports events. Visitors can enjoy a unique blend of history and recreation. The venue features a vintage six-lane bowling alley installed in 1908, one of the oldest continuously operating bowling centers in the United States. After closing during Prohibition, it reopened and was later restored in 1987. The site is both a Texas Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, offering food, drinks, and a lively atmosphere.
