Cotton Bowl

The Cotton Bowl is an outdoor stadium in Dallas, Texas, opened in 1930 as Fair Park Stadium on the site of the State Fair of Texas. It was the longtime home of the Cotton Bowl Classic college football bowl game, hosting the first 73 editions from 1937 to 2009. The stadium has been home to many football and soccer teams, including the SMU Mustangs, Dallas Cowboys, and FC Dallas, and hosted matches during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Visitors can attend the annual Red River Rivalry game between Oklahoma and Texas, or soccer matches of Dallas Trinity FC. The venue earned the nickname 'The House That Doak Built' due to the crowds drawn by SMU running back Doak Walker. Artificial turf was installed in 1970 and removed in 1993 for the World Cup. The playing field sits at an elevation of about 450 feet above sea level.
