Brooklyn Museum

The Brooklyn Museum is a major art museum in Brooklyn, New York City. Founded in 1823 as the Brooklyn Apprentices' Library, it later merged with the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences in 1843. Its Beaux-Arts building, designed by McKim, Mead & White, dates to 1897 and has been expanded several times. At 560,000 square feet, it is the second largest museum in New York City, housing a collection of approximately 500,000 objects. Visitors can explore significant holdings including Egyptian antiquities spanning over 3,000 years, alongside European, African, Oceanic, and Japanese works. American art from the Colonial period onward is heavily represented, with pieces by artists such as Mark Rothko, Edward Hopper, Norman Rockwell, Judy Chicago, Winslow Homer, Edgar Degas, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Max Weber. The museum was revitalized in the late 20th century and continues to serve a broad public.
