Butler Library

Butler Library is the main library of Columbia University, located on the Morningside Heights campus at 535 West 114th Street. It is the university's largest single library, holding over 2 million volumes. The Neoclassical building was designed by James Gamble Rogers and constructed from 1931 to 1934. Its collections cover the humanities, history, social sciences, literature, philosophy, and religion. It also houses the Columbia Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Visitors can admire the striking Neoclassical architecture and explore the extensive collections. The Rare Book and Manuscript Library offers the chance to see historic documents and special exhibits. During the academic year, the library remains at least partially open 24 hours a day, providing round-the-clock access for study and research.
