Federal Hall

Federal Hall National Memorial stands on the site of the original Federal Hall, the first capitol building of the United States established under the Constitution. This Greek Revival–style building, completed in 1842, was originally the New York Custom House and later a Subtreasury building. It now serves as a national memorial operated by the National Park Service, commemorating the historic events that took place here. Visitors can explore the building's architectural features, including a colonnade of Doric columns and a domed rotunda. A large statue of George Washington by John Quincy Adams Ward stands in front. The memorial honors the site where George Washington was inaugurated as the first president and where the First Congress met, adopting the plan to create Washington, D.C. as the national capital.
