Zuccotti Park

Zuccotti Park is a 33,000-square-foot publicly accessible park in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan. Created in 1968 as Liberty Plaza Park, it is a privately owned public space controlled by Brookfield Properties and Goldman Sachs. The park was heavily damaged during the September 11 attacks and later renovated in 2006, when it was renamed after company chairman John Zuccotti. It sits one block south of One Liberty Plaza and across from Four World Trade Center. The park draws local tourists and financial workers and has served as a site for commemorations of the 9/11 anniversary. Most notably, it became the staging ground for the Occupy Wall Street protests starting in September 2011, which launched the global Occupy movement.
