Confederate Soldiers Monument

The Confederate Soldiers Monument, also called the Confederate Dead Monument, is a memorial located outside the Texas State Capitol in Austin, Texas. Erected in 1903, it was sculpted by Pompeo Coppini with a base designed by Frank Teich and cast by Roman Bronze Works in New York City. The monument features five bronze figures representing the Confederate Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, and Navy, with a statue of Jefferson Davis standing above them all. Visitors can view this historic public artwork as part of a stroll around the Capitol grounds. The monument is one of twelve Confederate memorials at the site, largely funded by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. It offers a glimpse into early 20th-century commemorative sculpture and the controversial legacy of the Confederacy in public spaces.
