London Coliseum

The London Coliseum, designed by architect Frank Matcham and opened in 1904, was built as one of the city's largest and most luxurious family variety theatres. It boasted innovations such as lifts for upper levels and the first triple revolve stage in England. With 2,359 seats, it remains the largest-capacity theatre in London. After years hosting variety shows, musical comedies and stage plays, and a brief period as a Cinerama cinema, the Sadler's Wells Opera Company moved in during 1968. Now known as the English National Opera, the venue also serves as the London home of the English National Ballet. Visitors can attend opera and ballet performances in this historic and spacious setting.
