Peter Harrison Planetarium

The Peter Harrison Planetarium is a 120-seat digital laser planetarium situated in Greenwich Park, London. It forms part of the National Maritime Museum and opened in May 2007, funded by philanthropist Peter Harrison. The facility uses Digistar 3 software with blue, red and green lasers and grating light valve technology to project a detailed 5,000 by 4,000 pixel image onto the dome, refreshed 60 times per second. Visitors can experience immersive shows beneath the bronze-clad truncated cone structure, which weighs 45 tonnes and is tilted at 51.5 degrees to the horizontal (the latitude of Greenwich). The building's design aligns with the celestial equator and sits 50 metres east of the prime meridian. The planetarium was the centrepiece of the "Time and Space" redevelopment of the Royal Observatory, offering a unique blend of astronomy and architecture.
