The Shard

The Shard is a 95-storey, pyramid-shaped skyscraper designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano. Standing 309.6 metres high, it is the tallest building in the United Kingdom and Western Europe, forming part of The Shard Quarter development. Construction began in March 2009, the building was topped out in March 2012, and it opened to the public in February 2013, replacing the former Southwark Towers. Visitors can experience The View from The Shard, a privately operated observation deck on the 72nd floor at a height of 244 metres. The deck includes an indoor viewing gallery and an open-air observation area, offering panoramic vistas over the city and surrounding landscape. This makes it a popular spot for sightseers and a memorable vantage point for exploring the skyline.
