Go for Broke Monument

The Go for Broke Monument is a memorial in Little Tokyo dedicated to Japanese American soldiers who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Designed by architect Roger M. Yanagita, it was chosen from 138 submissions worldwide. Construction began in 1991 and it was dedicated on June 5, 1999. The monument stands at the end of North Central Street, next to the Japanese American National Museum, and is surrounded on three sides by a pay-parking lot. Visitors can view the monument at no cost and reflect on the contributions and sacrifices of these troops. Its location adjacent to the Japanese American National Museum allows for a combined cultural and historical experience. The public artwork is easily accessible outdoors, making it a meaningful stop for those exploring the area.
