E. G. Sewell Park

E. G. Sewell Park is a 10.33-acre riverfront park near the 17th Ave Bridge over the Miami River. It marks the tropical garden area of property purchased in 1897 by General Samuel Crocker Lawrence, who created a lushly landscaped garden of royal palms with a guest house and a boat slip. He also grew grapefruit on much of the land. Visitors can still see the royal palms, boat slip, steps, columns, and foundation of the guest house, as well as a water pump used to irrigate the tropical plants and grapefruit groves. The park is named for former Miami mayor E. G. Sewell and offers a peaceful spot to explore the remnants of this historic riverside garden.
