Museum of Miami

The Museum of Miami, formerly HistoryMiami Museum, is located in Downtown Miami. It is the largest museum dedicated to history, culture, and community in Florida. Founded in 1940 as the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, it is the oldest continuously running cultural institution in South Florida and a Smithsonian affiliate. The museum has been housed in the Miami-Dade Cultural Center since 1984 and expanded in 2014. Visitors can explore four permanent galleries and up to three traveling exhibits. The museum also features an Archives and Research Center, the South Florida Folklife Center, and an Education Center. It offers city tours, a non-circulating library, and educational programs that have reached over 500,000 students. Programs include exhibitions, tours, research, collections, and publications highlighting Miami's past and its role in shaping the future.
