Simpson Park Hammock

Simpson Park Hammock is a 7.8-acre urban park and nature preserve between the Brickell and The Roads neighborhoods. Originally set aside in 1913 as Jungle Park, it protects one of the last remaining tracts of Brickell Hammock, a tropical hardwood hammock. The park includes old-growth forest recognized by the Old-Growth Forest Network and sits on the Miami Rock Ridge at over 15 feet above sea level, with shallow muck soils over limestone. Visitors can explore this remnant of regional ecology in a highly developed downtown area. The park is home to 15 endangered and 9 threatened plant species, such as Licaria triandra. As an urban wild or passive park, it offers a quiet, natural escape for observing rare flora and experiencing a rare hammock ecosystem. The main entrance is at 55 SW 17th Road, near the Charles Torrey Simpson Garden Center.
