Madrona–Sally Goldmark Branch Library

The Madrona–Sally Goldmark Branch Library is a branch of the Seattle Public Library system, serving the Central District. It originated from the Book-Tique pilot program established in 1971 and was renamed in 1986 to honor community leader Sally Goldmark. A visitor's main draw is the aluminum sculpture The Peaceable Kingdom by Richard Beyer, installed outside the library in 1984. The artwork depicts various animals symbolizing neighborhood groups: a panther for the Seattle Black Panthers, a pig for police, sheep for elderly residents, and a wolf for street toughs, all living peaceably together. This piece provides a unique cultural and historical experience.
