Schmitz Park

Schmitz Park, also known as Schmitz Preserve Park, is a 53.1-acre park about 15 blocks east of Alki Point. It protects one of the last stands of old-growth forest within Seattle city limits and is home to Schmitz Park Creek. The park was donated by Ferdinand and Emma Schmitz in 1908, with later additions expanding its size. A preservation policy established in 1949 restricts access to foot trails only, keeping the park in a natural state. Visitors can explore the ancient forest on walking trails and enjoy the peaceful, unspoiled environment. The park's preservation policy ensures a quiet, nature-focused experience ideal for hiking and wildlife observation. The adjacent Schmitz Park Elementary School adds a community feel, but the park itself remains a serene escape into Seattle's natural history.
