Adler Planetarium

The Adler Planetarium is a municipal astronomy museum and the first planetarium in the United States, founded in 1930 by Max Adler. Located on the northeastern tip of Northerly Island on Lake Michigan, it is part of Chicago's Museum Campus alongside the Shedd Aquarium and Field Museum. The building, designed by Ernest A. Grunsfeld Jr., became a National Historic Landmark in 1987. Visitors can explore three theaters, space science exhibits including the Gemini 12 capsule, and a collection of antique scientific instruments. The Doane Observatory offers public stargazing, while outdoor sculptures like Henry Moore's "Man Enters the Cosmos" add an artistic touch. The planetarium's mission is to inspire exploration and understanding of the universe.
