Fountain of Time

Fountain of Time is a 126-foot-long concrete sculpture by Lorado Taft, located at the western edge of the Midway Plaisance within Washington Park. It depicts 100 human figures moving past Father Time, inspired by Henry Austin Dobson's poem "Paradox of Time" and built to commemorate 100 years of peace between the US and UK after the Treaty of Ghent. The fountain was activated in 1920 and dedicated in 1922, as part of a beautification plan for the Midway Plaisance. It was one of the first finished works of art made from molded, steel-reinforced concrete. Visitors can view the intricate figures and the water basin from across the park. The sculpture has undergone multiple restorations and remains a notable historic monument.
