Harris Theater

The Harris Theater is a 1,499-seat performing arts venue located along the northern edge of Millennium Park in Chicago. Built in 2002–2003, it sits largely underground to comply with park height restrictions and serves as the park's indoor complement to the outdoor Jay Pritzker Pavilion. Named for benefactors Joan and Irving Harris, the theater provides a permanent home for small and medium-sized music and dance groups that previously lacked such a space. Visitors can see performances from resident companies like the Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Chicago Opera Theater. The theater has also hosted major touring acts, including the New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Stephen Sondheim. Its acoustics and sightlines receive high praise, though it is less ideal for jazz due to size and cost. Discounted ticket programs have been introduced to improve accessibility.
