McDonald's Chicago Flagship

The McDonald's Chicago Flagship is a large McDonald's restaurant originally opened in 1983 with a rock and roll theme. That earlier building was demolished in 2004 and replaced with a new structure in 2005 that had three times the seating capacity of a standard McDonald's. In 2017, the restaurant was rebuilt with an eco-friendly design by Carol Ross Barney of Ross Barney Architects and interiors by Landini Associates, relinquishing the rock and roll theme. Visitors can experience this unique McDonald's location that features the first two-lane drive-through, a café, flat panel televisions, and a green roof. The building won the design excellence Award of Merit from the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2019, making it a noteworthy example of sustainable fast food architecture. It remains a functional McDonald's where guests can enjoy food and drinks.
