Museum of Science and Industry

The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry is a private non-profit science museum housed in the Palace of Fine Arts, built for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. Located in Jackson Park near Lake Michigan and the University of Chicago, it opened in 1933 during the Century of Progress Exposition and was renamed for financier Kenneth C. Griffin in 2024. Visitors can explore iconic exhibits such as the German submarine U-505, a United Airlines Boeing 727, the Pioneer Zephyr streamlined train, the Apollo 8 command module, a full-size replica coal mine, and a 3,500-square-foot model railroad. Permanent and special displays cover manufacturing, environmental science, chemistry, physics, computers, the brain, human mechanics, and agricultural science.
