Chamberlin Observatory

Chamberlin Observatory is an astronomical observatory owned by the University of Denver, located in Observatory Park. Named after real estate magnate Humphrey B. Chamberlin, the Romanesque building was designed by Robert S. Roeschlaub and constructed from rusticated red sandstone, featuring a central rotunda and domed roof. The main refracting telescope has a 20-inch objective lens by Alvan Clark & Sons and a mount by George Nicholas Saegmuller, assembled by Professor Herbert Alonzo Howe. First light occurred in 1894. Today, the Denver Astronomical Society hosts public outreach events at the observatory every month, offering visitors a chance to view through the historic telescope. However, the observatory's location in a large metropolitan area means it is heavily affected by light pollution, limiting its scientific use.
