Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge that spans the one-mile-wide Golden Gate strait between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It connects the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County, carrying both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1. Opened to the public on May 27, 1937, it was the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world at that time. Today, the bridge is open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic, designated as part of U.S. Bicycle Route 95. Visitors can walk or cycle across, taking in stunning views of the bay and city. Recognized as one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers, it remains one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco and California.
