Ocean Beach, San Francisco

Ocean Beach stretches 3.5 miles along San Francisco's west coast, bordering the Pacific Ocean. It's part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and sits next to Golden Gate Park, Sutro Heights Park, and the Sunset District. The Great Highway runs alongside, and landmarks like the Cliff House mark the northern end. You can reach it by Muni Metro at Judah and La Playa. The beach is famous for its surf culture and strong, dangerous currents, making it a spot for experienced surfers. Fog often blankets the area in late spring and summer, while fall and early spring bring clearer weather. The water is cold due to upwelling, and swimming is risky. The southern end near Sloat Boulevard has some of California's cleanest water. Visitors come for the dramatic coastal views and the unique San Francisco atmosphere.
