SS Jeremiah O'Brien

The SS Jeremiah O'Brien is a Liberty ship built during World War II and named after American Revolutionary War captain Jeremiah O'Brien. Now based in San Francisco, it was one of the 6,939 vessels that took part in the D-Day invasion off Normandy, France on June 6, 1944. Of the 2,710 Liberty ships built, only the Jeremiah O'Brien and two others remain afloat as of 2024. Visitors can explore this floating piece of wartime history, seeing how the ship operated and learning about its role in one of the largest amphibious assaults ever. As an operational museum ship, it offers a close-up look at a vessel that helped secure Allied victory in Europe.
